Description
Isel Hall is an Elizabethan Range, on a Norman foundation with a fortified Pele Tower. The whole dominates the landscape in its magic setting above the River Derwent. The gardens drop down to the river and beyond is the 11th Century Church, with Skiddaw behind. The site has been continuously occupied since Norman times and was passed from the original owners the Engaynes to the present owner through the Leigh and Lawson families. The last male Lawson, Sir Wilfrid, died in 1936 when it passed to his nephew and then cousin Mrs Margaret Austen-Leigh and then the present owner.
Location

3.5 miles from Cockermouth.
