Description
This lovely timber-framed house was started in the fifteenth century, and was given to Henry VIII’s wife, Anne of Cleves, in her divorce settlement. The large kitchen and furnished bedroom, with a four-poster bed are in period. The Museum tells the history of Lewes from medieval to modern times, the story of local resident Tom Paine and displays of Lewes Bonfire traditions, plus exhibits of Wealden iron, everyday domestic objects and children’s toys from times past. The enclosed garden is the venue for an October Tudor Fair. The house and garden are used for weddings and functions throughout the year.
