Description

Set in stunning landscape, designed by 'Capability' Brown, Alnwick Castle is the home of the Duke of Northumberland. Owned by his family since 1309, this magnificent castle was a major defence during the wars with Scotland. Visitors will enjoy views of one of the finest castles in Europe. Beautifully kept grounds are the wonderful setting for the Keep, which was restored by the first Duke in the 18th Century to create a fortress on the outside and a fabulous home on the inside. The fourth Duke's refurbishment of the State Rooms used furnishings and decorations of the highest quality. Paintings by Canaletto and Van Dyck hang on the walls and Italian marble fireplaces grace each room.Knights Quest is a fun, imaginative and interactive attraction where children can experience life in a medieval Castle and through great games and challenges complete a formidable Quest. The once impenetrable stone towers now house fascinating exhibitions, including Under Siege, the Percy Tenantry Volunteers, the Northumberland Fusiliers and the Castle Museum with displays of archaeological treasures. A packed events programme includes: Guided Tours; famous film locations; story-telling; theatre performances; concerts and many childrens' activities.
