Description

Explore plants from around the world in this 175 year old Garden which will surprise and delight visitors of all ages. Opened in 1832 but set in the heart of a modern city, discover the finest collection of plants in the Midlands. Move through the Victorian Glasshouses to experience the wonder of a Tropical rainforest, delight in Subtropical orchids and tree ferns, smell the perfumes of Mediterranean floral displays, then see the contrast of harsh desert conditions. The wonderful vista from the terrace includes lawn aviary and original 1873 bandstand. Walk through the 15 acres to discover features such as the woodland walk, historical, cottage, alpine and rock gardens; then enjoy the tranquillity of The National Bonsai Collection. New additions for 2008 are the nationally acclaimed “Growing Schools Garden” and “Green Man Experience”. Other attractions include exotic birds, Children’s Discovery Garden and art gallery. Our shop provides a wide range of gifts, souvenirs and plants, with refreshments available in the Pavilion Tearoom.
