Description
Lewes Castle is one of the oldest castles in England. The views over the county town of Lewes, the River Ouse and the surrounding Downs, an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, are worth the climb up the Keep. Adjacent to the Castle is Barbican House Museum with displays from the Stone Age to medieval times, and a model of the town of Lewes during the Victorian period. Family sessions on archaeological and historical themes are run throughout the year. Other events include a Medieval Day in May and open-air theatre performances. The Castle is used for weddings during the summer.
