Description

A place of tranquillity and beauty in the rolling South Downs all year round. West Dean features a restored walled kitchin garden with some of the finest Victorian glass houses in the country. A circular walk through a a 49 acre aboretum offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and the estate's fine flint country house in its parkland setting. Rustic summerhouses, a lavishly-planted 300ft Edwardian Pergola, ornamental borders and a rustic stream with pond contrast with over 200 varieties of carefully trained fruit trees, rows of vegetables and exotic flowers and produce in the walled garden. The Visitor Centre has a licensed reataurant and gift shop. Events take place throughout the summer. The Sussex Barn Gallery houses art and craft exhibitions.
